Backstory
Estariel was the second child of King Remy III. Being the older of the two, Iris was the one who would take over after their father, though Estariel was still trained in some of the royal duties so she could take over just in case - although she would only do so if Iris and any future spouse was unavailable. She didn't spend as long in these studies, so instead she studied nanmaika - a martial art of Rokasela that combines expert swatch use with precise movement. Iris spent more time practicing diplomacy and decision-making, but given that one of the great royal family treasures was the Ruviyatang, one of the three sacred treasures of Spectradom, he was still taught how to use it.
During the above, Estariel became good friends with Kalia, a young kanva from another noble house of Quill. Kalia and Estariel became friendly rivals.
Once Iris turned 20, the former king and queen gave him the reins. Unfortunately, Iris and Estariel had, and still have, quite different opinions on how things should work, causing conflict between the two of them. Iris is a rather pragmatic type, while Estariel is swayed more by emotional appeal. This became more severe as the Fennrilian Federation rose in power, worrying the young monarch - which drove him to be more stubborn. A clear example of their differences comes in the handling of a famine one fall - a drought caused the Quill Kingdom's rice farms to go dry, dramatically lessening production. The city-state of Svartalf made a generous trade offer to help them out - which Estariel wished to accept - but Mayor Diamantine, the leader of the city, was suspected of providing monetary aid to Fennril, so Iris refused. Estariel, however, lied to the palace's treasurer and told her to accept the deal, which royally pissed off her brother. The two fought, but despite her training, the mana provided by the brush was too much to bear, and Iris knocked her out, and, before kicking her out of the castle, he sealed her mana using the brush's soul-manipulating abilities, preventing her from using Frost Arts for some time.
Appearances
Drawn to AfterLife
Estariel appears as a major character in Drawn to AfterLife. In the light novel, she first appears in Chapter 2, which falls closely in line with her appearance in the video game. She is found by Charon passed out on a road in Svartalf, though he blacks out shortly after finding her, and does not remember taking her back to his home. However, that is where Hatena finds her. The two twins help Estariel rest and recover, and in short order, they start to become friends.
In the Drawn to AfterLife role-playing game, Estariel is a playable character. She is one of the more spell-focused characters in the game, owing to the unique mechanics of her innate skills. Estariel's Void Arts (and later Frost Arts) are rechargeable spells that the player always has access to, and she can use them as elements of swatchcraft instead of the associated ink color. They are weak at their base level, but can be upgraded throughout the game. The difference between these two different types of Arts is simple: Void Arts are non-elemental, while Frost Arts are so-called blue magic. Estariel is the only playable character with Void Arts, which are also rare in-universe; only Ruvafukarémuan, Selshan Téshika Téraza Télíta, and Iris (when powered up by Selshan) have them as well.
Outrealm: Aether from First Principles
Estariel returns as a playable character in the fighting game Outrealm: Aether from First Principles. Her Arts system from Drawn to AfterLife is replicated here, though the spells are not upgradable in the same way; while no individual spell can be upgraded, Frost Arts serve as upgrades to the corresponding Void Arts (with exception to her super moves) that can be activated with MP.
Trivia
Name origin
Estariel's first name comes from astris, the Latin word for "star", and ends in -iel, a common ending among Hebrew-origin names.
The last name "Mojito" is from the alcoholic beverage of the same name, in keeping with the other major noble houses of Quill.
