Liðakuin, being a language spoken across many natural barriers, has a large number of dialects. The standard dialect of the Fennril Federation, from which the language originates, is called Infernal, but there are many other important dialects, usually separated into four "varieties": Detséan, Krastian, Ygnoran, and Istrarénnan. Inter-dialectal intelligibility is relatively high within varieties, and while speakers of each variety have more difficulty understanding speakers of the other two varieties, their language is still generally intelligible, so it is considered one language for all intents and purposes.

Linking rénn[edit | edit source]
Phrases in Liðakuin where a word ends with a vowel and another vowel starts the next word are "prototypically" demarcated by an epenthetic glottal stop. However, in some dialects, an epenthetic alveolar approximant [ɹ] is used instead. This is called "linking rénn in reference to the letter name of , not in reference to Istrarénnan Liðakuin.
This happens more often if the final vowel in the first word is central.
